Red Back Announces Shareholder Special Meeting

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/10/10 -- Red Back Mining Inc. (TSX: RBI) (the 'Company' or 'Red Back') announced today that it has filed with the securities regulatory authorities a notice of special meeting of Red Back shareholders to be held on September 15, 2010 (the 'Meeting').

At the Meeting, the Red Back shareholders will be asked to consider and if deemed advisable, approve a special resolution approving an arrangement (the 'Arrangement') with Kinross Gold Corporation.

Further information regarding the Arrangement and the Meeting (including the time and location of the Meeting) will be contained in an information circular that Red Back will prepare, file and mail in due course in connection with the Meeting. It is anticipated that meeting materials will be mailed on or about August 17, 2010 to registered and beneficial shareholders of record as at August 11, 2010.

All shareholders are urged to read the information circular once it becomes available as it will contain additional important information concerning the Arrangement.
